COURSE INFORMATION
The 2012 Subaru Elephant Rock road courses have developed a reputation for being both scenic and challenging. The five 2012 courses offer fantastic variety. They include 100, 62, and 34 mile road courses, 25-mile off-road course, and the perfect family ride with the 7-mile course.
Protect Your Rock
Helmets are required for all rides. Please ride safely, lawfully and considerately!
All cyclists are required to follow all traffic law and regulations.
ALWAYS RIDE SINGLE FILE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, EXCEPT TO PASS.
The Police have authority to issue tickets, so please be attentive to state and local laws.
For
the 100 and 62 mile courses you
must be 14 years of age or older.
Tagalong bike trailers and burley style trailers are NOT
permitted on the 100 & 62 mile courses.

Course Caps
The Subaru Elephant Rock will enforce a cap on each individual
course rather than a overall participant cap.
For the 2012 ride, the course
caps will be as follows:
62 & 100 mile road course ---- 4,500 riders
34 mile road course ------------ 1,500 riders
25 mile fat-tire course ---------- 1,500 riders
7 mile family course ----------- =- 500 riders
Registrations will not be accepted once the caps are met. Please register
early!

Century--100-Mile Road Course
Start Time: 5:30am to 7:00am

The Century course travels the same roads as the 62-mile course with the addition of a 38-mile loop through the Black Forest. Known for its beauty and continuous rolling hills, this section offers a challenge for the strongest of cyclists.

Metric Century--62-Mile Road Course
Start Time: 6:00am to 8:00am

This course traverses the high plains between Denver and Colorado Springs. On a clear day, cyclists will enjoy views of the Front Range from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak.

Start Time: 8:30am to 9:30am

This abbreviated course tours through famous Front Range horse country. The terrain includes gentle rolling hills.

25-Mile Canyon Course
The 2012 Subaru Elephant Rock fat tire course tours the rolling hills, high plains and canyons around Castle Rock.
This off-the-beaten-path ride travels on a combination of dirt roads, paved roads and bike paths.

The 2012 Subaru Elephant Rock Family Course is perfect for beginners and families with little cycling experience. The family course heads out on the East Plum Creek Bike Path and includes interesting terrain and awesome vistas of the Rockies.

Rest - Aid - Fun Stations
There will be plenty of energy replacing snacks, water, energy drinks, fresh fruit, and portable toilets at each of the aid stations every 8 to 15 miles throughout each of the courses. It is always a good idea to carry a energy bar, gel etc…. with you in case you need a extra boost in between aid stations.
Riders must wear wristbands (supplied with registration) to obtain food. The following are the aid stations open and close times:
#R1 Spring Valley Chapel
location: on Highway 83
hours: 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
#R2 Ray Kilmer Elementary School
location: school parking lot
hours: 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
#R3 Eastonville Road @ Murphy Road
location: John & Thais Keyline’s Farm on the south west corner
hours: 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
#R4 Black Forest Regional Park
location: park on the north-east corner of Milam Road and Shoop Road
hours: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
#R5 Palmer Lake Park
location: the park next to Palmer Lake off of County Line Road
hours: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
#R6 Qwest Switching Station on Tomah Road
location: the Qwest switching station about one-mile north of Tomah Road on Highway 105
hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
#R7 Franktown Fire Station
location: the fire station on Highway 83 - 1/4 of a mile south of Highway 86
hours: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
#M1 Castlewood Canyon State Park
location: the picnic area/horse parking area in the park
hours: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
#M2 Crystal Valley Park
location: The crest of the hill on the right side of the road
hours: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Sag Wagons
Sag wagons will rove each of the courses with water and road assistance to help riders experiencing mechanical trouble or those who become too fatigued to finish. Please be prepared to handle your own flats and minor repairs. The Colorado State Patrol, The Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the El Paso County Sheriffs Department, and the Castle Rock Police Department will be on hand to make sure your ride is safe and enjoyable.
